Phuong Dong Institute for Applied Research was established under the Certificate of Science and Technology operation registration issued by the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology on December 24, 2020. PDIA’s main research activities are interdisciplinary scientific research and implementation of science and technology services in sustainable development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Danh Son – Chairman of the PDIA Scientific Council stated that the two main functions of the Institute are Scientific Research and Science and Technology Service Delivery. At the same time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Danh Son also pointed out that the main activities of the Institute are applied research and scientific and technological implementation, not excluding basic research. All activities of the Institute from Scientific Management to implementing specific activities will require conditions in terms of human resources and other resources. Human resources for applied research and implementation of science and technology require not only scientific knowledge and practical experience but also acumen on the technology market. The science and technology market of our country has been formed and operated in the direction of integration with other markets in the economy. The science and technology market has its own characteristics of supply and demand. According to experts’ forecasts, with the transformation of public non-business organizations into joint stock companies, competition in scientific activities will be vibrant and strong. Therefore, understanding and grasping the social demand for scientific research and science and technology services is a decisive condition for the development of the Institute. In the company or enterprise model, the Marketing or Market Development department is very important, it is proposed that the Institute assigns this task to a department in the Institute’s organizational structure, along with policies and mechanisms. encourage this work. Also due to the characteristics of science and technology activities, the connection of technology, the connection of resources (network of qualified and experienced scientists and technology) and the network of departments and other organizations.

Agree with the view of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Danh Son, Director of PDIA – MSc. Nguyen Thi Hong Hai once again affirmed the PDIA development strategy for the period of 2021-2026 and presented an action plan for 2021-2023. Indispensable to the sustainable development of the Institute is a strong human resources apparatus, high professional qualifications, enthusiasm for the profession, the personnel apparatus of the Institute including the Board of Directors and functional departments, Scientific Council and Advisory Experts. In order for the Institute to develop, it is necessary to have specific development orientations and strategies, Director Nguyen Hong Hai has outlined strategic directions and specific action plans. The first is to develop strategic goals for development on the basis of identifying customer groups and beneficiaries from which to deploy and develop networks for domestic and international scientific and technological cooperation and research. In the initial phase, the Institute will simultaneously carry out research activities based on the funding allocated from the S&T activities of the parent company – PDDC, at the same time, the Institute will expand the local and international cooperation networks projects to exploit science and technology projects and tasks at National, ministry and local levels and bilateral cooperation programs between Vietnam and Germany, Vietnam and Belgium, Vietnam and Spain, … and development strategies in the short, medium and long terms. Building a team of consultants for training and capacity building activities. Besides, setting up a website in 3 languages: Vietnamese, English, Spanish.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Trung Luong – Head of Tourism and Sustainable Development Department – Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development expressed his belief and optimism in the development of the Institute and pointed out several issues considered as challenges ahead to the development, One of the issues is:as the Institute operates under corporate law, of course, there will be a license in accordance with the Law on Science and Technology, but the Enterprise Law will still covers it. Therefore, the development of the Institute in general, including the field of tourism, tourism research and development, will be in a very competitive position, so the strategy must be putting in the context, associated with the context. The implementation depends on many factors: people, resources to implement.
